Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

The Friendly Games

This summer, Birmingham hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The international event saw 4,600 sportsmen and women from across 72 nations and territories competed against each other in more than 20 different sports, spread across 16 venues in the West Midlands region.
As the sole supplier of the temporary water infrastructure, MTD UK ensured athletes, volunteers, workers and spectators are provided with safe drinking water and access to toilets, showers, and bar and kitchen facilities. A team of 17 MTD UK engineers, under the supervision of a project Director, spend about 6 weeks and 25 truckloads of equipment connecting the temporary water infrastructure at all venues, including the Alexander Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremony take place and the Commonwealth Games villages. During the Games, MTD monitored all venues with the Venue Management System, and engineers were on-site, ensuring everything went according to plan and were able to immediately dispatch to any of the venues if needed.
